The Weaving Technique
Jamdani is one of the most labour-intensive handloom techniques in the world, traditionally practiced by weavers in Bengal and surrounding regions. Each motif is woven directly into the fabric by hand during the weaving process itself — extra zari or cotton threads are individually inserted between the warp threads using small wooden spools, building up each butta and border design thread by thread, rather than embroidering it afterward. A single saree can take weeks to complete, with two weavers often working together on a single loom to manage the intricate motif placement.
