Chanderi silk is woven on traditional pit looms using extremely fine, high-twist yarn, giving the fabric its characteristic sheerness, lightness, and natural sheen. The gold and silver zari leaf buttas are introduced as an extra weft, hand-guided into the weave motif by motif using small shuttles, while the border and pallu are built up separately using a dobby attachment to create their repeating patterns row by row. Because the yarn is so fine, weavers must work with great precision, and a single saree can take several days to complete on the loom.
