Jamdani is a discontinuous supplementary-weft technique in which each motif is woven into the fine cotton entirely by hand, thread by thread, with no stencil or tracing. Because the motifs are added during weaving and appear to float on the sheer ground, a single saree demands extraordinary patience and many days on the loom, making authentic Jamdani one of India's most time-intensive handlooms.
